How to schedule tweets with Claude or an AI agent
Connect your agent to the Octopost MCP server, connect your X account, and ask it to schedule the post with a date, a time and a time zone. Octopost stores the post and publishes it within about a minute of that time, so your agent and your computer don't need to be running.
Why an agent can't schedule on its own
An agent only runs while you are using it. If you ask it to tweet on Tuesday at 9am and nothing else is keeping track, nothing happens on Tuesday. Something has to hold the post, keep the X sign-in fresh until then and publish it on time.
Octopost does that part. Your agent calls one tool, schedule_post, then it's finished. A job on our side checks for due posts every minute. Temporary failures are retried, and a post that can't go out is marked failed with the reason.
Schedule a tweet in three steps
Create an Octopost account and connect X on the accounts page. Add the MCP server to your agent (the command below is for Claude Code; other apps are listed in the MCP docs). Then ask for what you want:
Add the server to Claude Code, then run /mcp and Authenticate
claude mcp add --transport http octopost https://octopost.ink/mcpAsk your agent
Schedule this for Tuesday at 9am Central: "The new export button is live."
Turn these release notes into a 4-post thread and schedule it for
November 10 at 10am Eastern. Hold it for my approval.
Write five posts from this article and schedule one a day at 9am Pacific,
starting Monday.What the agent sends
schedule_post({
content: "The new export button is live.",
platforms: ["twitter"],
scheduled_for: "2026-11-10T09:00:00-06:00",
needs_approval: false
})To change plans later, ask the agent. list_posts shows what's scheduled, reschedule_post moves a post, update_post edits its text and cancel_scheduled turns it back into a draft.
Exact time, queue or approval
| Ask for | Tool | When it posts |
|---|---|---|
| A set date and time | schedule_post | At that time |
| "Add it to my queue" | queue_post | Next open slot in your active hours (default every 4 hours, 9am to 8pm) |
| "Hold it for my approval" | needs_approval: true | After you approve: at its time, or right away if that time has passed |
If you are writing code instead of asking an agent, the scheduling API guide has the same three options as REST requests. Setup steps for each app start at claude.ai and Cursor.
Limits worth knowing
- Always name a time zone. The server refuses a time without an offset or one in the past, so the agent has to work out the offset from what you said.
- Check the date the agent picked when you say "next Tuesday". The tool result returns the stored time, and list_posts shows it later.
- There are no repeating schedules. Each scheduled post has one time, so "every Monday" means one post per Monday. For steady posting, use the queue.
- A post must fit 280 characters, with links counted as 23. A thread can run up to 25 posts and goes out as one scheduled item.
- X posts count against your plan when they publish. Basic allows 500 a month, or about 38 with links.
- X, Bluesky and Mastodon are live. Threads opens after Meta approves the Octopost app. LinkedIn is in testing, so a post there may fail.
Questions
Can Claude schedule tweets?
Yes, once Octopost is connected as a connector or MCP server. Ask Claude to schedule the post with a date, time and time zone, and Octopost publishes it at that time.
Does my computer need to stay on?
No. The scheduled post is stored in Octopost and published from our servers.
Which agents can schedule posts?
Any MCP client that can connect to https://octopost.ink/mcp. Setup steps are published for claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf and Gemini CLI.
Can I review a scheduled tweet first?
Yes. Ask the agent to hold it for your approval. Octopost emails you Approve, Reject and Edit links, and the agent cannot approve its own post.
How do I cancel a scheduled tweet?
Ask the agent to cancel it. cancel_scheduled turns the post back into a draft, and you can give it a new time later with reschedule_post.
Start for $1
Every plan includes the MCP server and the REST API. Basic is $29 a month for 3 accounts, Premium $79 for 10, Business $199 for unlimited. The first 7 days cost $1, then the plan renews monthly unless you cancel.
