Can Claude post to X or Twitter for me?

Yes, once you connect a tool that can reach your X account. On its own, Claude writes the text but has no way to publish it. Add Octopost as a custom connector in claude.ai or Claude Desktop, or as an MCP server in Claude Code, connect your X account once, and Claude can post, thread, schedule or queue tweets when you ask.

What Claude can and can't do by default

A Claude chat has no access to your X account. It can draft a tweet or a thread, and then you copy it over yourself. To publish, Claude needs a connector: a remote MCP server that exposes posting tools and holds the sign-in to your account.

Octopost is that connector. You sign in to X through the Octopost dashboard once, and you sign in to Octopost from Claude. Claude never sees your X password or tokens, and you don't need an X developer account.

Once it's connected, Claude can publish now, schedule for a set time, add to a queue, hold a post for your approval, split long text into a thread, attach images and read how past posts did.

Set it up

First create an Octopost account and connect X on the accounts page. Then add the server to the Claude you use. In claude.ai on Pro or Max, Anthropic's path is Customize, then Connectors, then Add, then Add custom connector. Paste this URL and leave the OAuth client fields empty:

An Octopost page opens the first time: sign in, check the account and click Allow. Exact steps for each app are on the claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code setup pages. For a developer workflow, such as announcing a release from your commits, see posting to X from Claude Code.

To read each post first, ask Claude to hold it for approval. Octopost emails you Approve, Reject and Edit links, and Claude can't approve its own posts. The approval guide covers the settings.

Limits worth knowing

  • Anthropic lists custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. Free accounts get one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds it first in Organization settings.
  • X, Bluesky and Mastodon are live. Threads opens after Meta approves the Octopost app. LinkedIn is in testing, so a post there may fail. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Discord, Slack and Telegram are not supported.
  • Each post must fit 280 characters, with links counted as 23. Long posts on X Premium are not supported, so longer text goes out as a thread of up to 25 posts.
  • Octopost plans cap X posts each month: Basic allows 500, or about 38 with links. X charges per post and costs more for a post with a link.
  • Anthropic says Claude can use connector tools without asking during Research. Turn off the Octopost tools for that kind of chat, or turn on "Require approval for every post" in Octopost Settings.
  • Octopost posts your own posts and threads. It has no tools for replying to other people, sending direct messages, following or liking.

Questions

Can Claude tweet for me without an X developer account?

Yes. You sign in to X through Octopost once and Octopost publishes with its own X app, so you never create a developer account or handle API keys for X.

Will Claude post without asking me?

Claude shows tool approval requests, and you can choose Allow always for a tool you trust. For a firmer rule, turn on "Require approval for every post" in Octopost Settings: every post from Claude then waits for a person to approve it.

Does it work in the Claude mobile app?

Connectors you add on claude.ai also show up in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps. Add it on the web first.

Can Claude post to more than one X account?

Yes, if you have connected more than one and your plan allows it. Name the handle in your request. Basic includes 3 connected accounts, Premium 10 and Business unlimited.

Can Claude post to Instagram or Facebook?

Not through Octopost. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube are not supported today.
