Let your agent draft the posts. You approve what goes out.
Agents are good at turning a changelog, a blog post or a day of commits into posts. You still want to read them first. Octopost gives your agent an approval queue: it can write and queue as much as it likes, and nothing publishes until you say yes.
Full autonomy is the wrong default for your public accounts
Handing an agent raw posting access means one bad summary, wrong link or duplicated post is public before you see it. Not giving it access means you copy and paste every draft by hand.
The approval queue sits in between. Drafts land as pending. You approve, edit or delete them in the dashboard, or tell the agent to approve the ones you like. Approved posts go out in your next queue slot.
Turn it on with one instruction
Connect the MCP server once:
Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http octopost https://octopost.ink/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"Then, for example
Read this week's merged PRs and draft three posts about the user-facing
changes. Queue every one with needs_approval so I can review them.Same thing over the REST API
curl https://octopost.ink/api/posts \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $OCTOPOST_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{ "content": "Draft text", "platforms": ["twitter"], "queueStatus": "pending" }'To make it stick, add a line to your project's CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md: "Never call create_post. Always use queue_post with needs_approval." More on the queue in the queue docs.
Limits worth knowing
- Approval is a convention your agent follows, not a permission on the key: an API key can also publish directly. Keep that in mind before giving a key to an agent you do not control.
- Approving is one post at a time, in the dashboard or through approve_queued_post. There is no bulk approve yet.
- There are no team seats or reviewer roles. The approver is whoever has the account login.
- Approved posts publish in queue slots during your active hours, not instantly. Use create_post when you want something out now.
- X posts count against your plan’s X units when they publish, not when they are drafted.
Questions
Can I edit a pending post before approving it?
Yes. Edit it in the dashboard, or ask the agent to call update_post with your changes.
Can a pending post have a set publish time?
Yes. Schedule it with approval required and it publishes at that time once approved.
Which agents work with it?
Any MCP client that sends an Authorization header: Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, OpenAI Codex CLI and Gemini CLI. Anything else can use the REST API.
Does Octopost write the posts?
No. Your agent writes them. Octopost checks each network’s limits, holds the post for approval and publishes it.
Start for $1
Every plan includes the MCP server and the REST API. Basic is $29 a month for 3 accounts, Premium $79 for 10, Business $199 for unlimited. The first 7 days cost $1, then the plan renews monthly unless you cancel.
