Octopost + OpenAI Codex CLI
Octopost is a social media MCP server. Add it to OpenAI Codex CLI and your agent can post to X, write native threads, schedule posts and hold them for your approval. Octopost is live on X; other networks are on the roadmap.
1. Start a plan and connect X
Sign up (7 days for $1, then $29 a month), then connect your X account on the accounts page.
2. Copy your API key
It starts with
op_and lives on the API keys page.3. Add Octopost to OpenAI Codex CLI
Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.octopost] url = "https://octopost.ink/mcp" http_headers = { "Authorization" = "Bearer op_YOUR_API_KEY" }Replace
op_YOUR_API_KEYwith your key.4. Try it
Ask your agent:
- “List my Octopost accounts.”
- “Queue a post to X about today's release and hold it for my approval.”
- “Turn these release notes into a 3-post X thread and schedule it for 9am tomorrow.”
If it doesn't connect
- 401 Unauthorized: the key is missing, mistyped, or not sent as
Authorization: Bearer op_.... The error message names which. - “Your Octopost plan is not active”: finish the $1 trial checkout on the billing page.
- “No twitter account connected”: connect X on the accounts page.
